1st Training video :-)

I guess you've all heard about Honey's Dancing With the Doggie Stars contest ... Well, today my humans decided to teach me how to go through their legs .... hehe. It wasn't THAT easy even though my human Laura is 1.75m tall ( 5'9" ) ... I'm already big at 7 months :-)

Did you like it ? I know, I'm a bit slow ... but I'll be working hard, promise !

PS: sorry about my human in the video, she is shameless, ..... in her jammies ! phewwww....

Talk soon,

Lincoln

  1. We think you did very well, Lincoln. Our Mom is the same height as your human but no way could she hold her balance like yours does to let us go under her legs. We can't wait to see your dance.

  2. Oh Lincoln - that is fantastic!! I think you're doing so well and thank you so much for posting updates on your DWTDS preparation - it is going to be so nice watching how you put everything together!

By the way, there is another way to teach the leg weaving/go through legs which might be easier for you (& your human!) - I am going to explain this method in a video for the next DWTDS episode next week but here is an old video I made a couple of year ago which you might find helpful: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5FikpSFDzA

(The idea is to throw a treat through the legs which gets dog running through the legs quickly & confidently. YOu don't hold it in your hand so it doesn't stop the dog because your arm is too short and you don't have to stand in a funny way. Once they are going through the legs well, start to "pretend throw" but actually keep the treat in your hand - then after they go through, call them back around to come and get the treat from you in front. This teaches them to go through and then come round in front. Teach them to do this on both sides - and it becomes a figure-8 sideways weave! Then if you stand with your legs front & back, rather than sideways, looks similar to the dog - same action - but you are actually starting to do forwards weaves.)

Keep up the great work, Lincoln!

  3. good job Lincoln!
I don't know if we'll make a whole dance, but I think the idea is so fun, I've started to teach Darwin to spin/turn. She's not very quick at picking it up. hehehe. Maybe I should make a video showing her progress!

  4. Doing good there, Lincoln! I was just about to say the same thing as Honey said. Tell your hoomie not to hold the treat in her hand. It would be better if she threw the treat through her legs so that you go through her at a faster speed. She could either do the "pretend throw" like Honey suggested or she can really throw it. Do whichever way that works best for you.

Also I think it would be better if you learn to do this 1st before learning the weave:

Another thing your hoomie can also do is to prop her leg on a stool like the one in your video. She will have much better balance this way when teaching you this trick. And the last thing is, to prevent you from dragging her along on top of you or accidentally hitting your head onto her (ouch!) when you go through her legs, your hoomie could try crouching down just a bit so that you will learn to crouch down too when you weave through her.

Looking forward to see your progress. Keep it up!
